When all other means of communication fail, try words.

“The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.”

George Bernard Shaw

Do you and your family find it hard to talk about money together?

I've been thinking about this a lot recently.  We are currently planning our summer holiday travelling through Europe.  We will be away for a month and will travel by plane, car, ferry and bus staying in a variety of accommodation from basic to comfortable (and one very comfortable one for a treat!).

We will be making approximately 9 stops (feel free to email me if you are interested in our itinerary btw!).  And budget is obviously a huge consideration and influence on how this trip will go.

This is a family trip.

Travelling and seeing the world is of huge importance to us.  Which means my husband and I, along with our children, need to be on the same page financially to make the trip into a reality, and a bloomin' good adventure.

And this means talking about money with my family.

😕 Not guessing.

😕 Not saying 'I'm sure there's enough'.

😕 Not saying 'We can't afford it'.

😕 Not ignoring it and hoping for the best.

😕 Not thinking that my family are mind-readers.

It means communicating and working together to budget towards a common goal.

Taking the time to talk about money with those close to you can be a game changer, not just for your relationship but for the experiences and adventures you want from your lives and your future.

Yet so many people shy away from talking about money, even with the people they love the most, often feeling ...

😔 Embarrassed

😔 Secretive

😔 Ashamed

😔 Shy

😔 Guilty

😔 Unknowledgeable

And a host of other reasons that are used to not talk about money.

So let’s break the taboo and start talking.

Ultimately, the key to COMMUNICATION is good old-fashioned, eye to eye, TALKING.

Creating foundations and focusing on mutual goals together can be motivating, REASSURING and great FUN!

Plus, involving your children, when it feels appropriate, is a BRILLIANT way to ensure they feel COMFORTABLE talking about money, as well as learning to understand the boundaries and FREEDOMS.
